In a new approach to tackling Road Safety, Rugby League legends have got 'on board' literally.

The NSW Government is teaming up with some of the biggest names in the game as part of the successful 'Knock On Effect' campaign to tackle road deaths in country areas.

A regional footy clinic featuring former league stars Laurie Daley, Tim Brasher, Steve Menzies and Josh Perry will make its way to Coffs Harbour on Saturday, 26 May.

The clinic forms part of this year’s campaign which is designed to tap into rugby league’s huge popularity in the country to deliver an important road safety message.

Member for Coffs Harbour Andrew Fraser said “too many local people are dying on country roads and it’s having a devastating effect on families and local communities”.

“Last year we lost 392 lives on our state’s roads – a staggering 272 or nearly 70 per cent of those deaths were on country roads.

“The sad reality is that you’re four times more likely to be killed on the roads in the country than you are in the city".

With a huge following in regional NSW, the partnership with Rugby League fits perfectly with spreading the important road safety messages to people in country towns.

The campaign started in 2017, a partnership between the NSW Government and the NSW Rugby League.

Mr Fraser said the clinics are about getting out into regional communities to talk to local people face to face about what is happening on their roads, in their communities, and how we can work together to find a solution.

“We are also very fortunate to have the support and help of NSW Rugby League in getting this important message out to the country,” Mr Fraser said.

The Coffs Harbour clinic will be held at Rex Hardaker Oval, Hogbin Drive, Toormina, from 10am.
