The Sawtell Panthers will be celebrating big this Saturday as the club hold their 40 year reunion.

2018 marks 40 years since the club's first grade side had an epic season, going the entire season undefeated before winning the Clayton Cup.

Brothers Noel and Les Cleal played in the side before moving to Sydney.

Noel continued his Rugby League career for Eastern Suburbs and Manly, as well as representing New South Wales from 1981 to 1988.

It will be a day of great memories, all players from that game are coming back for the day.

The current Sawtell Panthers will run out and play on Saturday in a replica of the jumpers worn in 1978. The jumpers will be auctioned at the Sawtell Hotel on Saturday night.

It seems that 1978 was a very successful year for the Sawtell Panthers, with the Reserve Grade team also undefeated during that season.

Sons of the soil, a local band who were big at that time will be playing at the Sawtell Hotel on Saturday night for the celebrations.
