Rumours surrounding the future of the Sawtell Pool have been quashed after an letter was published by the Coffs Coast Advocate.

The claims were made regarding a survey that the writer says the "Coffs Council is doing in regard to closing Sawtell Swimming Pool".

It follows a released by the Coffs Harbour City Council earlier in the month regarding a strategy for the future development of facilities at Sawtell and Woolgoolga Swimming Pools.

Council are asking locals for their feedback and thoughts in the online survey.

Council’s Director Business Services, Andrew Beswick said, “Sawtell and Woolgoolga Pools are both nearly 40 years old and, while they provide adequate community facilities, each complex needs significant improvements”.

“Council is also aware that pool-based recreational activities have evolved over time so we would like to establish a strategy to ensure that the upgraded facilities at both pools will provide for current and future community and visitor needs”, he said.

Triple M invited Mr Beswick onto the station to clarify the situation with the pools and the recent letter in the Coffs Coast Advocate.

While he didn't take up the offer to speak, he did say that "Local pools are to remain so nothing to discuss".

Coffs Harbour Mayor, Councillor Denise Knight did speak to Triple M. She told Moffee, "The Sawtell Pool is NOT closing".

According to Cr Knight she has spoken with the Sawtell Chamber of Commerce President to confirm that it will remain opened.

In regards to the letter in the Advocate, Cr Knight said, "I don't know where this woman got this incredible lack of information from, and it has made me quite cranky".

The detailed survey that asks the community for input and ideas on the future of both pools is now open at https://haveyoursay.coffsharbour.nsw.gov.au/Pool_Strategy_Sawtell_Woolgoolga

The survey is open until May 7 2018.
