A sewer spill has lead to a warning from Coffs Harbour City Council to avoid swimming or fishing in Coffs Creek on the eve of the Easter Long Weekend.

The Coffs Harbour City Council released a statement to media at 4:48pm on Thursday afternoon advising of the spill which took place at 9:15am.

According to the statement, the blockage was cleared by 9:50am, with 9 sample points identified upstream in Coffs Creek.

Samples have been sent to the Coffs Harbour Laboratory for testing. Results should be returned by Friday.

Council say, “In the interim as a matter of precaution the community are advised to not enter Coffs Creek and not to fish or swim in the area until further notified”.

Council was notified of a sewer spill at 9:15am this morning by a member of the community. The blockage was cleared by ‪9:50am‬ and nine sample points were identified upstream of the spill site to the mouth of Coffs Creek. These samples have been sent to the Coffs Harbour Laboratory for testing and the results will be available ‪tomorrow morning‬ and the public informed of the findings.
 
In the interim as a matter of precaution the community are advised to not enter Coffs Creek and not to fish or swim in the area until further notified.
