Telstra is planning to cut 8,000 jobs in a plan to reduce it's cost base and simplify its operations.

The news surfaced this morning that the telecommunications company will slash the 8,000 employees and contractors, to "flatten the structure" which will also see one in four executive and middle management roles go as well.

In the last month Telstra warned its shareholders that the 2017/18 earnings will likely be at the bottom of its guidance range, saying that the increase in competition in mobile and fixed broadband, and rising costs from the NBN is to blame.
