Termite damage has closed the Bellingen Courthouse until further notice.

According to the NSW Justice, the Courthouse will be closed while a structural engineer and heritage expert carry out building inspections as the result of termite damage.

A spokesperson from the NSW Justice said the damage has "impacted walls in the registry, records room, public waiting areas and Magistrate’s Chambers".

Their assessment will determine the extent of the damage and identify what remediation work needs to be carried out to fix the problem.

Due to the closure, sittings for the 4 April 2018 have been transferred to Coffs Harbour Local Courthouse.

According to the NSW Justice spokesperson, "all parties and stakeholders are currently being advised including police and the local council".

Bellingen sits one day per month and the registry is open two days per week.  Any enquiries regarding Bellingen matters may be directed to [email protected] or via NSW Court Service Centre on 1300 679 272.

The online court registry allows Bellingen residents and lawyers to file court forms from the convenience of their homes or workplaces 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
