Registrations open today for the iconic Toyota Country Music Busking Championships, one of the most anticipated aspects of the festival.

Each year, 400 buskers flock to Peel Street aka Tamworth’s “Boulevard of Dreams” to showcase their talents and they are followed by thousands of visitors who are looking for the chance to listen to emerging artists.

Many Australian country music stars began their journey by busking on Peel Street, with the next generation of up and coming artists due to hit the pavement in January in search for stardom.

Official Ambassador for the Toyota Country Music Festival and country music icon, Lee Kernaghan says, “Busking on Peel Street has been the first public performance for many of our current recording artists and it continues to be a major feature of the Tamworth festival.

“I love the interaction between the audience and the Busker. If you can hold a crowd on Peel Street then you have made a big step in the right direction if you’re looking for a career in country music.”

“But there’s more up for grabs than the best piece of pavement and a guitar case full of change,” says Toyota Country Music Festival Manager, Barry Harley.

The championships offer 10 finalists the opportunity to perform at the Best of the Buskers concert on the final Sunday of the festival.  There is also the chance to win a share in over $5,000 in cash and prizes, plus an opportunity for a guest appearance during the Opening Concert in 2020.

Up and coming artists looking for their next big break are strongly encouraged to register for Busking online at https://tcmf.com.au/Busking/ .

Registration is open from Wednesday 31 October and is essential for those wanting to participate. For any enquires please contact Busking Coordinator, Jody Ekert at Tamworth Regional Council on 6767 5555.

The 47th Toyota Country Music Festival, Tamworth will be held from Friday, 18 to Sunday, 27 January 2019 with the 47th Toyota Golden Guitar Awards on Saturday 26 January 2019 at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre.
