They’re in action right across our community on a daily basis. Often, they’re everywhere you look. Volunteers, people and organisations who continually step up to the plate and help make our community great.

So, that’s why nominations for the 2019 Australia Day Awards are now open.

Lockyer Valley Mayor, Tanya Milligan said it was important to give our region’s best the recognition they deserve.

“This is all about making the nomination process as easy as possible.

“We all know how busy life can get at the end of the year, as both school and sporting activities wrap-up, but this way nominations can be placed when it’s convenient – after a particular community event or when a sporting season concludes.

“As a Council we are always keen to recognise those who are making our community the wonderful place it is.

“If you know someone who does just that, I would certainly encourage you to place a nomination now.

“Nominations will still close in mid-November of each year, but are now open,” Mayor Milligan said.

Award categories include:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Junior Sports Award
  • Senior Sports Award
  • Sporting or Community Group of the Year
  • Arts and Cultural Award
  • Community Event of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year

Nomination forms are available from Council offices in Gatton and Laidley, the Lockyer Valley Libraries, the Lake Apex Visitor Information Centre or online at www.lvrc.qld.gov.au.
