More than 30,000 fresh daffodils have arrived in Toowoomba, just in time for Daffodil Day this Friday, August 25.

Staff have started to unpack the daffodils at Cancer Council Queensland’s Toowoomba office to help spread yellow cheer.

The daffodil is the international symbol of hope for those touched by cancer as it blooms at the end of winter and heralds the return of spring, vitality and growth.

Cancer Council Queensland CEO Ms Chris McMillan encouraged locals to show their support for Daffodil Day by buying a bunch of daffodils, or donating to the cause.

“A bright splash of yellow does more than light up the community – it means we are taking active steps to beat cancer and to show our support to those affected,” Ms McMillan said.

“More than 27,000 Queenslanders will be diagnosed with cancer this year alone, and about 8700 will die from the disease – we need to do all we can to support those impacted.

“Every dollar donated in support of Daffodil Day helps to grow hope for better treatments, hope for more survivors, and hope for a cancer free future.”

To get involved, Queenslanders can buy daffodils or merchandise at a local site, or donate via daffodilday.com.au or 1300 65 65 85.

This year Cancer Council Queensland hopes to raise $1 million during August to invest in vital cancer research, support services and prevention programs statewide.
