Dry winter conditions have prolonged the effects of the ongoing drought for many parts of Queensland, including areas in the Toowoomba Region, but support is at hand for rural communities through the Community Drought Support grant program.

Funding for eligible community groups has been provided by the Queensland Government’s Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability in an arrangement with Toowoomba Regional Council and other drought-affected councils.

Toowoomba Region Mayor Paul Antonio said applications must be lodged with Council by Friday, September 29.

Mayor Antonio said Community Drought Support grants up to $5000 were available for eligible community organisations or groups that were interested in using funds to support various activities promoting wellbeing or addressing a genuine need in an area.
