The RSPCA is calling for calf roping at the Millmerran Show to be banned from the event with RSPCA spokesperson, Michael Beattie saying it was one of the least-watched of all rodeo spectacles, adding that the RSPCA don’t agree with calf roping.

These concerns follow those made by a group who are advocating for the humane treatment of animals has raised concerns about the Millmerran Rodeo.

Calf roping is a popular timed event at rodeos across Australia with the goal of the event for the participant to catch the calf by throwing a rope around its neck and restraining it by tying three of its legs together.

The winner of the event is the participant who can tie and restrain the calf in the shortest time possible.

Animal Liberation Queensland posted a video to Facebook of the calf roping event at the show earlier this month.
