Toowoomba Regional Council is encouraging the community to enjoy a sausage sizzle and celebrate the memory of Dads who have passed this Sunday at the Drayton & Toowoomba Cemetery.

The inaugural Father’s Day event allows people to remember their Dad while enjoying the beautiful gardens surrounding the cemetery.

The event also provides an opportunity to visit and enjoy this wonderful community asset.

Cr Geoff McDonald says, “Council wants to change the perception of cemeteries from a place of sadness to being a place of commemoration.

Father’s Day is a time to celebrate important people in our lives, but for those with Dads that have passed this may be a difficult time.  Sunday’s event allows the community to honour their Dads and brighten up the cemetery by laying some flowers in a complimentary blue vase."

This is the opportunity to tell a ‘Dad joke’ and enjoy a ‘snag’ around the ‘barbie’ while remembering the special times with our Father’s.

On Sunday, visitors can enjoy Pop-Up Flower Markets and join in Heritage walks that will visit some of our famous Father’s from Toowoomba’s past, with a mini-paranormal walk for this interested in the more supernatural experience.

The Cemetery Office will be open so that visitors can search the database to find members of their family tree.

The Father’s Day event at Drayton and Toowoomba Cemetery goes from 8.00am – 12.00pm on the 2nd September.  For more information please go to www.tr.qld.gov.au/events.
