Sixty-seven community and not-for profit groups located throughout Toowoomba Region Council (TRC) Region can now plan future projects thanks to being successful in their bids for funding through Councils Community Grant Program.

At yesterday’s Council Meeting, Round 1 (2018/19) funding of almost $258,000 was approved to be shared across the sixty-seven successful Community Grant Program applicants.

The number of successful applications and grant funding will be allocated as follows:

  • Community Economic Development: seven totalling $28,700
  • Community Support: fourteen totalling $19,419
  • Cultural and Arts Support: six totalling $16,172
  • Environment: four totalling $15,936 *
  • Event Support: twenty-six totalling $71,800
  • Sport and Recreation: seven totalling $72,797.50
  • Sports Tourism Event: three totalling $32,500.

TRC Environment and Community Committee chair Cr Geoff McDonald said “Council was pleased to offer financial assistance to a diverse range of community and not-for-profit groups and appreciates the difficulty smaller groups face to find money for projects, services and facilities”.

Preference is given to applications that fulfil a range of criteria covering community inclusiveness and interaction, a willingness to encourage community partnerships, upgrading facilities or services and establishing a new service, facility or initiative.

Council officers are available ahead of each funding round to offer guidance around applications. Additional information about each grant category is available on Council’s website. Visit www.tr.qld.gov.au/grants

Cr McDonald said “it was pleasing to note the range of projects and activities that would proceed across the region thanks to the grant funding”.

“Eligible groups around the region are welcome to make enquiries or lodge applications at the appropriate time to help their organisation stage events or improve facilities. “The next funding round will open in February 2019 closing on March 01 2019.
