Toowoomba Regional Council has spent over half a million dollars on scooping up land in Highfields.

An impressive, $1.7 million has been spent on the purchase of two pieces of land to help cater to future growth.

The purchases include 20 acres of land alongside the Highfields Sports and Recreational Park, purchased for $600,000 from Clive Berghofer.

The second purchase is located at Cronic and Barber Roads on the Highfields Escarpment for a cool $1.1 million.

Environment and community committee chair Geoff McDonald said both purchases were funded through the council's park and bushland levy at market value.
