Darling Downs Rally Crews Ready to Tackle Big Adventure

Local entrants in the annual Road Boss charity car rally are leaving Toowoomba this Wednesday from Alpine Refrigeration in Brooke Street at 9AM, travelling to the start line of a 5000km odyssey that will set out from Gladstone next week.

After taking off from the start line in Gladstone, rally cars will travel a 5000km outback trek to Tamworth via the Boulia Camel Races and aim to raise around $200,000 for Charity Partner GIVIT.

There are 60 entrants in this year’s rally with cars and crews travelling from South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, all over Queensland, New Zealand and even one from California in the USA.

Toowoomba-based rally Founder and Organiser, Jamie Lawson, said that this year’s event is as difficult and challenging as anything he has organised in past.

“We have been organising rallies now for 30 years and it is important that every event offers something new and a little different,” Mr Lawson said. “We have entrants that have done all 30 of our rallies and also people who will be lining up for their first ever taste of what it’s all about.

After months of exhausting vehicle preparation and feverish fundraising, it is now time to hit the road and enjoy the adventure of a life time. It is a very exciting time for every one as they get to see their hard work come to fruition and catch up with mates and extended rally family.”

The 2017 fundraising tally currently sits at $121,000. While there is no pre-determined target, it is estimated the final donation amount will be around $200,000 by the time the crews make it to Tamworth on July 20.
