An elderly man was airlifted by the Toowoomba-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter after he fell into a rock gully on the back of his property, at Crows Nest yesterday morning.

His wife found the 75-year-old man unconscious at the bottom of the gully after he failed to return home.

It is believed he slipped off a cliff which banked the creek, falling approximately three metres into the dry gully below.

Queensland Ambulance Service, Queensland Police Service and Queensland Fire and Rescue Service were all in attendance.  QAS transported the injured man toa local cricket field, where he was met by the Toowoomba RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter who continued airlifting him to Brisbane.

He had sustained critical head and chest injuries as a result of the fall and was flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.
