Three year-11 Grammar School Students have been involved in an end or year school prank that has resulted in the death of a small bird.

The students allegedly smuggled the four Finches in their pockets into an award ceremony last week with the intention of releasing them at the ceremony, but things did not go to plan with the discovery of a dead bird.

The Chronicle reports that they trio will be disciplined through the school.

One of the boys will volunteer at the RSPCA over the upcoming school holidays.

The incident is under investigation by outside authorities, but it remained unclear what, if any, charges would be filed in relation to the prank.
