Two men have died as a result of a glider accident at Bowenville yesterday morning.

An experienced pilot and his student lost their lives in the crash which happened when the aircraft was returning from a training flight.  The accident was witnesses by the instructors wife.

Emergency services were called to an area near the Darling Downs Soaring Club at Bowenville just before 10am on Tuesday following reports of a light aircraft incident.

It was reported that the glider was 30 to 50 feet above the ground when the aircraft suddenly nosedived.  Police say that the aircraft crashed into a field about 30 metres from the runway.

The Chronicle reported the 60-year-old student, from The Whitsundays, was taking part in his third lesson the 62-year-old instructor is said to have been was a very experienced pilot who had been flying for a very, very long time.

The pair died at the scene.
