Fire permits have been cancelled across the Southern Downs with the region on a very high fire danger alert.
This follows a busy weekend for crews across the region responding to a number of blazes.
It includes one yesterday south of Stanthorpe that burnt 300 hectares of land coming within 5 metres of structures and closed the New England Highway for some time.
Many residents experienced smoke after effects throughout the night and were advised to close windows, doors and keep respiratory medications close at hand.
The fire was contained and monitored throughout the night.
