Firefighters will today return to the scene of yesterday’s Grantham blaze to ensure the fire has not jumped the containment lines.

Around 10.30pm last night, crews had the fire under control with it burning within containment lines, down grading the warning from a watch-and-act to an alert.

A spokesperson for QFES said for a short time, the grass fire, which burnt through 123 hectares, the equivalent of 123 rugby fields, did cross the Warrego Highway.

Crews worked hard fighting the fire, managing to prevent it from spreading through back-burning operations and aerial water bombing support. Back-burning operations were also carried out along the Warrego Highway.

No buildings or structures were damaged.
