Queensland Fire and Emergency Service crews were kept busy yesterday with grass fires on the Western Downs and Geham.

The heat of the day did not help the efforts of fire fighters who were trying to control a large grass fire on the Western Downs.  The fire broke out around midday at Louisa and Edinburgh Streets.

It took two QFES units each from Roma and Mitchell, and two Rural Fire Brigade units to control the fire.

Crews, were assisted by the Western Downs Regional Council after they supplied a water tanker to help extinguish the fire.

The blaze was extinguished by 1:30PM.

A second grass fire broke out opposite the Geham State School around midday.  Several QFES units attended the scene and had the fire under control fifty minutes later.
