The state opposition is calling for harsher penalties for repeat domestic violence offenders in Toowoomba.

Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence Shadow Minister Ros Bates was in the Garden City yesterday to talk about the statistics that were released last week.

Darling Downs police says there were more than 900 breaches of domestic violence orders in past 12 months.

Ms Bates says the government needs to be doing more:

The “Not Now, Not Ever” review had 144 recommendations.  During this time Labor has only rolled out about 70 of those.  The LNP has always given bipartisan support to domestic and family violence.  We supported the government in the new strangulation laws, and we supported them in the increase in domestic violence order from two to five years.”
