There’s really no point lying about it – if you’re drunk, you’re drunk.

One drink-driver took on the “honesty is the best policy” approach after being pulled over in Toowoomba recently, declaring to police officers, “I am drunk”, after they spotted him going through two red traffic lights on West St about 12.20AM, February 21.

The 26-year-old man told police he had been drinking since 11AM the day before and had consumed 18 rum and cola cans and approximately half a carton of wine after an argument with his girlfriend.

He blew a breath/alcohol reading of 0.184.

He pleaded guilty to DUI in court.  As he had already been disqualified from driving for one month he was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver's licence for a further nine months and fined him $900.

No conviction was recorded.
