Increase on “Smash & Grab” Offences Across the Darling Downs

Police report that in recent months there has been an increase in ‘smash and grab’ type offences across the Darling Downs.

Crows Nest has not been immune to this type of offending with two businesses being targeted over the past two months.

CCTV footage of these offences has been utilised by investigators to identify and prosecute those individuals responsible.

As a business owner/operator or as a private citizen, CCTV can be a useful deterrent to criminals and provides police with the evidence required to investigate and prosecute offenders but, it is not fool-proof. A security system, like any other equipment, needs to be looked after and maintained so that it operates correctly.

Police recommend regular checks of the cleanliness, focus and operation of security systems be conducted and business managers train their staff on how to accurately use the equipment.
