Monday saw the start of National Crime Stoppers week.

The Toowoomba Crime stoppers committee will be out and about this week promoting Crime Stoppers and how it operates.

They will also be encouraging people with information that may help solve crimes to provide information to Crime Stoppers.

The Toowoomba Crime Stoppers committee and local police will be focusing on getting information about anyone involved in theft of Firearms, illegal drugs and property related crimes.

2017 national achievements include:

▪ 317,129 Contacts via calls, website and other means

▪ 142,694 Information reports passed to police

▪ 7,907 Arrests resulting from our program

A focus on cultural diversity:

Nationally, this year's Crime Stoppers Day has a special focus on encouraging people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to speak up about crime.

The 2016 Census shows that nearly half (49%) of Australians had either been born overseas (first generation Australian) or have one or both parents born overseas (second generation Australian).

Of the more than 6.1m Australians who were born overseas, nearly one in five arrived since the start of 2012. This shows that our community is evolving at a fast rate, and it is critical that Crime Stoppers adapts and keeps pace.

Crime Stoppers has well-trained team members on standby to help, and can arrange translation services if needed, to empower everyone in our community to report crime.

If you would like further information in relation to crime stoppers you can follow the link to the Crime Stoppers Queensland webpage https://www.crimestoppersqld.com.au
