Toowoomba Region’s parks and gardens were in this spotlight this week - when TRC played host to its 2018 Parks Week from 10th - 18th March.

Parks and Recreation Services portfolio leader Cr Joe Ramia said Parks Week will raise awareness of the value of parks and open spaces, and get people out of their living rooms and enjoying their neighbourhood parks and open recreation spaces.

“Toowoomba Region advocates a healthy and active lifestyle, and visiting parks is great for your physical and mental wellbeing” Cr Ramia said.

“Our parks also provide environmental benefits to our Region, and build more connected communities by providing places where people come together for leisure.

“The events offered throughout Parks Week should remind the community of the environmental, health and recreational benefits of getting outdoors.

“There’s a great range of activities for families to get out and about in parks across the region.

“Our free Magical Parks digital game will be available at 14 parks across the region, where parks are turned into digital fantasy lands for children and families to explore.

“Queens Park will host Nature Play activities on Saturday 17th March, which provide fun-filled Commonwealth Games themed events including hay bale hurdles and pine cone shot put.

“Other Parks Week activities held in parks throughout the region will include trail yoga, fitness classes, park runs, kids’ yoga and hula-hooping.”

Bookings are required to participate in most Parks Week events. For a full list of Parks Week activities, please visit http://www.tr.qld.gov.au/parksweek.
