Toowoomba’s tap water is the best in the country.
The Garden City took out the title with TRC’s Mt Kynoch Water Treatment Plant being named IXOM 2017 Best Tap Water in Australia during National Water Week event held in Launceston yesterday.
A 10 litre sample from the Mt Kynoch Water Treatment Plant won the popular vote with more than 5000 people tasting and then rating each of the unmarked state winners in Launceston’s mall.
TRC Water and Waste Committee Chair Cr Nancy Sommerfield said the national title was a stunning achievement.
“Council is very proud that a sample of water from the Mt Kynoch Water Treatment Plant earlier this year was named Queensland’s best tasting water and then the winner of the Origin water tasting competition,” Cr Sommerfield said.
“Our water also is a two-time winner of the South West Queensland award for best tasting tap water. So, to now win the award for best tasting water in Australia is a huge achievement.”
The water from the Mount Kynoch plant goes to 54,000 homes across the council area including Toowoomba, Jondaryan, Oakey and Highfields.
Toowoomba’s water will now go on to represent Australia at the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting competition in West Virginia, USA in February 2018.
