Twenty-nine Glennie girls in years 7 to 12 will travel to Sydney to perform at the Australian International Music Festival from 1 – 8 July.

The festival attended by 900 – 1,300 participants from Australia, China, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore and the USA provides a fantastic musical and cultural experience for Wind Bands, Orchestras, Choirs and Jazz Bands. Glennie Jazz Orchestra’s repertoire consists mainly of music from the swing era including the music of Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Buddy Rich as well as Latin Jazz and Rock Styles.

They’ve chosen 40 minutes of repertoire including songs made famous by artists including Michael Jackson, Guns ‘N Roses, Cole Porter and Earth, Wind and Fire. Committing six months to rehearsals, the girls are proud of their collective sound and are polishing their stage presence in preparation for this prestigious event.

During their time in Sydney, the orchestra will perform twice in Darling Harbour, once in Manly Corso and at an adjudicated performance at Sydney Town Hall.

The girls will participate in workshops led by world-class clinicians and benefit from the overall cultural experience. Their impressive rendition of the iconic song ‘Don’t Stop ‘Til We Get Enough’ is sounding amazing with the girls adding a little extra flair for an ending the judges and audience are sure to enjoy and remember.

July can’t come soon enough for this excited group of musicians. "This is the fifth time we have been fortunate enough to attend The Australian International Music Festival. It offers many opportunities for our students, and they always enjoy interacting with musicians from around the world and performing at some of Sydney's most iconic venues," said Mr Jason Wisley, Tour Musical Director, and Head of Arts at The Glennie School.
