A Granite Belt Drug Action Team has been given a $10,000 boost to address drug use in the community.

A local drug action team has been set up with funding from the federal government.

The team will be charged with spreading an awareness message through the community.

The funding will also go towards rolling out more services for those affected by drugs across the Southern Downs.

Maranoa MP David Littleproud says this is a major announcement for the region:

"Local Drug Action Teams are about empowering locals – we have been given $10,000 to support the community development services corporation on the Granite Belt.  This money will assist in development of the Drug Action Team who will be charged with the responsibility of rolling out education programs not only at school base level but right through.”
