A Lockyer Valley man has been charged with murder following a road rage incident in Brisbane on the weekend.

Queensland Police allege around 4AM Saturday morning 33-year-old man had stabbed a German tourist in the stomach and back following a verbal altercation.

It is believed that the German backpacker and a friend were trying to cross the road on Petrie Terrace, Milton when the incident happened.

The injured man was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital but died a few hours after.

The Lockyer Valley man will appear in a Brisbane court today.
