A man has been charged after allegedly pointing a replica handgun at another driver in Newtown this morning.

It will be alleged around 8AM a 22-year-old female driver was attempting to merge into traffic and turn into Hursley Road from Tor street when she was blocked by another vehicle.

The male driver of the vehicle then sped up in a further attempt to block the woman from merging.

The man then raised what appeared to be a firearm towards the roof of the car.

A passing police car attempted to intercept the man’s vehicle as it turned into Taylor Street however, he allegedly drove away at speed.

A short time later police located the man’s car at the corner of Wirraway and Earheart Street in Wilstonton.

Toowoomba dog squad commenced a track of the area and subsequently located a man in Greenwattle Street who was taken into custody.

A replica handgun was located inside the abandoned vehicle.

A 22-year-old Oakey man has been charged with going armed “so as to cause fear”, dangerous operation of a vehicle, failure to stop a vehicle and driving of a vehicle without a licence.

He is due to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court tomorrow (January 20).
