As Daffodil Day draws closer, Mitre 10 Goondiwindi and Mitre 10 Millmerran will turn yellow to grow hope for all Queenslanders affected by cancer.

Cancer Council Queensland is celebrating 31 years of Daffodil Day during the entire month of August, with the official day on Friday, August 25.

In addition to selling fresh daffodils and merchandise, both Mitre 10 stores will host a morning tea on August 25, from 10am until 11.30am.

Toni Sadler, who works in administration for Mitre 10, said staff were looking forward to supporting the cause.

“Each year our staff get involved with Daffodil Day; it’s a great way to raise money for a good cause,” she said.

“Everyone is welcome to come along to either Mitre 10 store for some delicious morning tea – there will be cheesecakes, muffins, and plenty more treats made by our staff.

“All proceeds go to Cancer Council Queensland’s important work.”

Entry to the morning tea is a gold coin donation.

Cancer Council Queensland CEO Ms Chris McMillan encouraged locals to show their support for Daffodil Day.

“Daffodil Day is one of Queensland’s most iconic events, bringing hope and joy into the lives of locals affected by cancer,” Ms McMillan said.

“In South West Queensland, around 2040 people are diagnosed with cancer each year – we need to do all we can to support those impacted by this disease.

“Daffodil Day raises vital funds to ensure we can continue to conduct world-leading research, right here in Queensland, and continue our proud history of support for people in the local community who have been impacted by this dreaded disease.”

Cancer Council Queensland hopes to raise $1 million this Daffodil Day to invest in vital cancer research, prevention programs and support services statewide.
