Toowoomba North MP Trevor Watts is calling for more funding for our police saying their job is becoming increasingly tougher with less officers on the beat and police budgets continuing to shrink.

He's calling for action and believes the Garden City is in the “midst of a massive crime wave.”

Meanwhile Police Minister Mark Ryan has hit back at the claim.  He says there has been no reduction in police numbers and it is important to note that any extra police have to be recruited and trained.

The Chronicle reports that Mr Watts said data showed serious assault was up in the Darling Downs 18.4 per cent, sexual offences were up 14 per cent and break and enters were up 15.7 per cent between 2016-17 and 2017-18.
