Police have charged a father and grandfather over a firearm incident in Cottonvale last month.

The incident happened around 4.30pm on January 5, when two boys aged 5 and 13, were in a shed when the older boy discharged an unsecured firearm resulting in the younger boy sustaining serious facial injuries.

The 5-year-old boy was taken to the Lady Cilento Hospital for treatment, doctors reporting that the bullet was only millimetres away from being fatal.

Police have issued a 29-year-old man with a “Notice to Appear” and charged with one count of unlawful possession of a weapon.

While a 63-year-old man has been also been issued with a “Notice to Appear” and charged with one count of failing to secure a weapon.

Both men are due to appear in the Warwick Magistrates Court on March 28.
