Police Charge Man on a String of Charges

On September 12, the man allegedly attempted a steal a vehicle at knifepoint from Astor Terrace on Spring Hill.  The 39-year-old male occupant of the car managed to escape unharmed from his car.

Police will further allege that the same man threatened an 80-year-old woman with a knife on Wickham Terrace, Spring Hill, the following day, September 13, before stealing her brown Mercedes Benz.

On Sunday September 16, police saw the stolen Mercedes parked on Primrose Parade in Wynnyn West.  The male driver of the car drive into the parked police vehicle as they were approaching the car.  The offender fled the scene.

Around 5:40pm, police located the same stolen Mercedes parked at the rear of a Newtown shopping complex, the driver and car fled the scene, allegedly damaging police vehicle in the process.

Police took pursuit of the stolen vehicle which took them through numerous Toowoomba streets before they deployed a tyre deflation device on Bridge Street.

While the deployment was successful, the car continued to travel at high speed on all four rims along Anzac Avenue colliding with another two police vehicles before losing control and coming to a stop.

Police arrested the driver at the scene.

A 27-year-old Wynnum West man was charged with 14 offences:

  • two counts of serious assault police and dangerous operation of a vehicle
  • one count each of armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, fail to stop motor vehicle
  • unlicensed driving
  • possessing dangerous drugs
  • possessing tainted property
  • possessing property expected to commit a drug offence
  • enter premises and commit indictable offence
  • failure to take precaution with a syringe.

He is due to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court today (September 17).
