Police Charge Man over Police Assault
Charged with multiple offences
Detectives have charged a 26-year-old man following the alleged serious assault of a police officer at Harlaxton last month.
Around 2.40am on May 19, police attended a licensed premises on the New England Highway following reports of a disturbance.
After speaking to a number of patrons, police accompanied a man into the carpark for the purpose of obtaining his ID card.
The man entered a vehicle and started the engine, at which time a 31-year-old male constable attempted to intervene and prevent him from leaving.
He then allegedly punched the constable a number of times in the chest before driving away at speed.
The police officer was not seriously injured in the incident.
It will also be alleged the 26-year-old man obstructed police during an arrest in Kearneys Springs on Friday.
He has been charged with multiple offences including one count each of serious assault police, dangerous operation of a vehicle, fail to stop motor vehicle and wilful damage; and three counts of obstruct police.
The man appeared in court yesterday.
