Savvy work from Toowoomba police has resulted in an interstate truckie being reunited with her beloved friend after he was allegedly pup-napped from outside a stop in Goondiwindi last week.

At about 12pm on April 20 the 54-year-old driver tied her dog “Grub”, a Fox Terrier cross Jack Russell, to a post outside of a café at a truck stop and went inside the business.

A short time later the woman came outside and was devastated to find that her dog had been taken off its’ lead and was missing.

After unsuccessfully attempting to locate Grub herself she reported the matter to local police.

A few days later on April 23, police spoke with a man sitting a truck on Bridge Street in Toowoomba who had an eager foxie sitting next to him in the vehicle’s cab.

The 67-year-old man was arrested regarding unrelated matters and was taken to the Toowoomba watch house.

While police were making arrangements for someone to care for the pup, members of the public came and assisted police in identifying the dog after seeing posts on social media reporting him stolen.

Police were then able to contact Grub’s grateful owner, who was able to verify ownership with microchip numbers and paperwork.

A 67-year-old Toowoomba man was charged with stealing.  He appeared in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on April 23.

Police have extended a big thanks wish to thanks the all witnesses who helped with the safe and welcome return of Grub to his owner.
