It looks like the Prime Ministers goal for construction to begin this year on the Darling Downs Inland Rail project will be put on hold.

The budget is set to be handed down on May 9 but a route for the project is still to be determined.

A report on the project is slated to be handed to Transport Minister Darren Chester tomorrow, while the Federal Budget will be delivered in twelve days with an allocation of $1 billion for the Inland Rail speculated.

The four route options between Gowrie and Yelarbon are:

  • Through Millmerran and Inglewood
  • Through Wellcamp and Charlton
  • Through the Karara/Leyburn area
  • Via Warwick
