“Dog flippers” are on the increase in the region, with a Toowoomba-based animal rescue and re-homing group asking the public be alert and on the look-out.

Off The Chain K9 Rescue's say they have noticed more cases “dog-flipping” in recent months, it involves getting a pet for free or stealing it and turning it around for profit.

In most cases the dog were abused, neglected and weren't de-sexed.

The group says the best ways to avoid "flippers" include avoiding unwanted pregnancies, getting animals de-sexed and getting help from shelters to re-home animals.
