This follows an incident on Monday where a 7-year-old boy was hit by car at the Drayton and Arthur Street intersection.

Main Roads will be looking at dropping the speed limit and putting in traffic controllers.

However, Mayor Paul McVeigh would like to see work stopped on the project:

“Roadworks should be stopped at the Drayton & Arthur Streets intersection.

This is the second incident in 8-days, the former incident was a tragedy with a 4-year-old boy losing his life.

As a community we’re very committed, we are actually calling for construction to stop on site at the moment until we find a solution so that we don’t have these incidents happen again in our community.

We need our community to be very, very safe.”
