Participating Event, BCC and Greater Union Cinemas are proud to bring sensory friendly films to families living with autism and other sensory needs.

Held monthly on a Sunday morning, sensory friendly screenings allow families to enjoy their favourite films in a safe and accepting environment where kids are free to get up and move around, shout or sing. The cinema lights are dimmed so you can see what is going on, the movie volume lowered for sensitive ears and volunteers monitor fire exit doors.

Courtney Watts, Assistant General Manager, BCC Cinemas Toowoomba says she is delighted to bring sensory friendly screenings to Toowoomba Grand Central each month:

“We are proud to offer sensory friendly films for families who previously hadn’t attended the cinema for fear of disturbing other patrons in a public session. These sessions offer an escape to the movies in a relaxed environment and enable guests to enjoy quality family time and be themselves”.

The screenings are run with the assistance of Sensory Souls, an organisation that was developed to support families and children to have a range of fun, positive experiences in a safe and judgement-free environment.

Chanelle Avison, from Sensory Souls is a huge advocate of the screenings:

“As a mother of Autistic twins, being able to attend a movie screening where no one will say ‘Sshhh’ or ‘Sit down’ to your special needs child/person and meeting other special needs families so you don't feel alone is amazing”.

The Sensory Friendly Movie Line-up includes:

 Captain Underpants - QLD 17 September

 The Emoji Movie - 15 October

 The Lego Ninjago Movie - 5 November

 Film TBC - 3 December

All tickets are $6* (plus online booking fee).
