$11million is going towards fixing up roads across the Southern Downs after ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie blew through.

Southern Downs Council confirmed that they were successful is securing the funds from the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.

The money comes after months of assessment work between council and State and Federal governments.

Mayor Tracey Dobie says they have applied for further funding to make the roads more resilient to future weather events.

Repair work will be undertaken by Council staff wherever possible and there will be a need to engage contractors in an effort to restore our gravel road network to pre-disaster service levels as quickly as possible.

On unsealed roads, motorists are urged to drive to the prevailing conditions, regardless of their familiarity with the route, as road surfaces can vary even in the best conditions.
