The Southern Downs Says No to Violence (SDSN2V) campaign was officially launched in Warwick on Friday on what was National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence.
Representatives from Southern Downs Regional Council, Queensland Police Service, government agencies, local community groups and community members gathered for the launch.
Southern Downs Regional Council Mayor Tracy Dobie officiated the morning, while guest speakers Dr Peter Gillies from Darling Downs and Southern West Health Service, Sergeant Tony Rehn and Assumption College School Leader Mary Higgins, each gave an insight on what impact violence and bullying has on their world/profession and what they see as ways to support and educate those involved.
Coffee cups endorsing the ‘no to violence’ message were used throughout local coffee shops on the day as well stickers and coasters being handed out supporting the message.
The campaign is a joint project between Southern Downs Regional Council and local community groups and is supported by QPS.
Moving forward, SDSN2V will be partnering with local events to present a unified message that violence is not accepted in our community.
The next upcoming event that SDSN2V will be supporting is the Warwick Safe Haven Peace Walk and Candlelight Vigil, Warwick. A state-wide event for National Day of Remembrance on Wednesday, May 2. For further enquires email [email protected].
