In aid of homelessness in Toowoomba

More than 70 Toowoomba locals will be trading in their beds for a bit of cardboard tomorrow night at Gold Park.

The trade in is all for a fantastic cause - The Vinnies Community Sleepout is being held to help raise money and awareness for homelessness in the Darling Downs area.

Money from this year’s event will be going toward building more permanent living options for homeless people in the region.

Sleepout Coordinator Darren Tomlinson says some of the participants are having a lot of fun with this event:

“Nick Barker from Hutchinson’s has agreed to wear on the night whatever has been put on his desk in the morning.

Hutchinson’s have offered to put down $1000 if Nick wears whatever is on his desk tomorrow morning so it should be fairly interesting to what the results are.”

More than 105,000 Australians find themselves homeless each night of the year. Just under half of these are women; a quarter are under the age of 18.

The goal for 2017 is $175,000.  There is still time to register and donate.
