The Lone Eagle Flying School (LEFS) will hold its second open day in support of the Toowoomba Hospice on Saturday 14 October at the Clifton Airfield.

The flying school’s inaugural open day last year exceeded the expectations of organisers, with over 135 people attending, 125 flights conducted and the Toowoomba Hospice receiving a donation of $3,125.

The overwhelming success contributed to the LEFS being named the Community Group of the Year in the 2017 Australia Day Clifton District awards.

LEFS founder Trevor Bange said based on last year’s effort he flying school decided to make the open day an annual event. “We were absolutely blown away by the turnout, feedback from members of the community and the amount of money we raised for the Toowoomba Hospice, it was fantastic,” Mr Bange said.

Toowoomba Hospice Fundraising and Administration Manager Mr Mark Munro said the open day is a fantastic opportunity to have a close look at some aircraft, take a flight over the district and interact with people whilst raising money “I would encourage everyone to come out, enjoy a great day, while supporting a worthy local charity The Toowoomba Hospice.”

A $30 donation will give attendees the opportunity to go on a 15-minute flight over the district, with all proceeds going directly towards the Toowoomba Hospice.

There will be about 12 to 15 club/privately owned aircraft performing flights on the day, with flights taking off every few minutes. To ensure flights run smoothly, there is a passenger weight restriction of 110kg.

The LEFS open day is supported by Toowoomba Regional Council and funded by the Queensland Government.

There will also be plenty to do on the ground, for a gold coin donation the kids can have their face painted or even still they can have fun on the jumping castle. There will also be morning tea and barbecue, with cold refreshments available.
