It’s almost here!  The Queen’s Baton will make its way through Toowoomba tomorrow and here’s what you need to know:

BATON RELAY TRAIL:

The GC2018 Queen's Baton Relay will pass through Oakey and Toowoomba on TOMORROW Wednesday 28 March on its way to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony a week later. 

Community members will be able to line the routes and cheer on the local and visiting Batonbearers as they contribute towards delivering the Queen's Baton to the GC2018 opening ceremony.

This is a great opportunity to become involved in the largest sporting event Australia has hosted this decade.

TIMES:

Toowoomba: Wednesday 28 March, 1.54pm to 5.30pm. 

Oakey: Wednesday 28 March, 12pm to 12.37pm.

COMMUNITY CELEBRATION:

To celebrate the arrival of the Baton, a community celebration will be held on Wednesday 28 March 2018, starting from 4pm on the Civic Precinct (behind City Hall on Ruthven Street).

Food:

  • Coffee van
  • Free sausage sizzle

Entertainment:

  • Live music and didgeridoo playing
  • Indigenous art displays
  • QSuper and Optus will present interactive displays and activities

Official proceedings:

Official proceedings will take place from 5:30pm to 6pm.

  • Welcome to Country
  • National Anthem sung in First Nations language
  • Welcome dance performed by combined indigenous dance troupes
  • Town Crier ‘cry’ to introduce the Mayor
  • Mayor speech

As part of the Queen's Baton Relay, temporary road closures and parking changes will be in place in Oakey and Toowoomba on Wednesday 28 March 2018.

ROAD CLOSURES:

Toowoomba:

  • Fitzpatrick Street between Denyer Street and Richmond Drive will be temporarily closed from 9am to 2.30pm or until the QBR has passed through the area. Access for residents will be provided until 1pm.
  • Mothercraft and Gallery Lanes (the access roads between Victoria and Little Streets) will be temporarily closed from 4pm to 6pm or until the QBR has passed through the area.

 

PARKING RESTRICTIONS:

Oakey:

  • The railway carpark at Bridge Street in Oakey will be temporality closed from 6am to 12.15pm or until the QBR has passed through the area.
  • On-street parking from 33 to 47 Toowoomba Road in Oakey (eastern side of the road only) will be temporarily restricted from 9am to 1pm or until the QBR has passed through the area.

Toowoomba:

  • On-street parking on the eastern side of Holberton Street in Rockville between Chopin and David Streets will be temporarily restricted from 9am to 2.45pm or until the QBR has passed through the area.
  • On-street parking on the northern side of Herries Street in front of the Glennie School (236-259A Herries Street) and 261 Herries Street in Newtown will be temporarily restricted from 12pm to 3.45pm or until the QBR has passed through the area.
  • On-street parking from 152 Herries Street to 604 Ruthven Street in Toowoomba (eastern side of the street only) will be temporarily restricted from 12pm to 6pm or until the QBR has passed through the area.
  • Parking bays on the southern side of Mothercraft and Gallery Lanes will be temporarily restricted from 12pm to 6pm or until the QBR has passed through the area. Any vehicles parked on the southern side of Mothercraft and Gallery Lanes after 12pm will be unable to exit until 6pm.
  • Parking bays on the northern side of Mothercraft and Gallery Lanes will be temporarily restricted from 4pm to 6pm or until the QBR has passed through the area. Any vehicles parked on the northern side of Mothercraft and Gallery Lanes after 4pm will be unable to exit until 6pm.
