A third child has been struck by a car at a notorious Dalby roadworks site.

An eight-year old girl had to be airlifted to the Lady Cilento Hospital in Brisbane after the accident that occurred along a notorious stretch of road on Drayton Street where roadworks are being carried out.

The incident happened around 12:30PM Saturday when the young girl was struck by a vehicle, she sustained leg and head injuries.

She remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

In early March a young boy lost his life at the road works site a week later a second child was involved in a collision.

Western Downs Regional Council mayor Paul McVeigh described the latest incident as "a tragedy", adding that the driver of the utility was "devastated".

The roadworks began in August last year and Cr McVeigh is asking that pedestrians and motorists to mindful of continuously changing traffic conditions until the end of the year and to please take note that there are a lot of “blind spots’.
