The opening weekend of the 2017 Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers was nothing short of EPIC, with record breaking crowds on Saturday and Sunday and tens of thousands enjoying the brilliant Spring sunshine, the Grand Central Floral Parade and the almost 200,000 blooms covering the city’s parks and gardens.

The Ergon Energy Food and Wine Festival at Upper Queens Park attracted record crowds on Saturday and Sunday, with highlights being the local produce and wine tastings, star chef Tobie Puttock, gardening guru Sophie Thompson, and the Heritage Bank Live Concert Series line-up of Alex Lahey, The Paper Kites, The Temper Trap, The Angels, Daryl Brathwaite and more.

Business all over the city was booming, with the iconic Picnic Point Café a hotspot for their famous Lavender Ice-cream, Betty’s Burgers in-demand for their Carnival-inspired lavender and blackberry waffle, and 4 Brothers Brewing and 4 Hearts Brewing a go-to for their just-released Floral Ale!

Cr. Geoff McDonald said the Carnival had grown from strength to strength with the figures telling the story. “Overnight stays to Toowoomba for Carnival have jumped from one night to three, meaning people are staying longer and enjoying more of what our region has to offer at Carnival time. We have just experienced record numbers over the opening weekend – this event becomes more and more relevant to people every year!”
