Toowoomba Region has officially gained international accreditation as an Australian Safe Community after the final assessment by representatives of the Australian Safe Communities Foundation.

Toowoomba Region joins six other Australian communities that are nationally accredited safe communities.  All accredited Australian Safe Communities automatically join with communities in New Zealand, Canada and the United States as part of the Pan Pacific Safe Communities Network.

Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Paul Antonio said he was delighted that Toowoomba Region had finally been recognised as a Safe Community.

Mayor Paul Antonio receives 'Safe Community' accreditation

“Toowoomba is one of the most liveable cities and this accreditation signals to the international community that our region is also a safe place to live, Mayor Antonio said.

“Gaining national accreditation will allow us to promote our community with more confidence as a destination for new businesses, migrants and international students.

“This recognition has been made possible by the many community members, government organisations, not-for-profit groups and volunteers that work with Council to make the Toowoomba Region a safe place to live.
