Toowoomba Regional Council has rejected a proposal to build a childcare centre at a notorious crash site.

Councillors voted 6-5 against the project proposed for the corner of James and Cohoe Streets – a location that Toowoomba Police had marked as their number one hot spot for crashes in Toowoomba.

Concerns were raised that should the development go ahead it could be potentially putting children’s lives at risk with the corner a notorious truck roll over spot.

The 112-place childcare centre was recommended for approval by Councils town planners.
